Intermittent Catheters
Intermittent catheters are available in a variety of materials (including plastic, red rubber and silicone) in various lengths and French sizes. They are also available with coude tips and with hydrophilic coatings to ease insertion.
Hydrophilic Intermittent Catheters
Hydrophilic catheters have a special coating that becomes slippery when exposed to water. Some catheters come packaged with their own sterile water. They are also available in closed kits.
Closed Systems
Closed Intermittent Catheter Systems are designed to help prevent urinary tract infections. Kits are available with or without insertion supplies (gloves, sterile drapes and prep pads). Non-latex kits are also available.
External Catheters
Male external catheters, also called condom caths, come in various sizes and materials, including latex, plastic and silicone. These are also available with various straps or adhesives to secure placement.
Foley Catheters
Foley catheters or indwelling catheters are available in latex with silicone coatings or all silicone. They are designed to remain in place for 30 days.
